NEW DELHI: Ryan Duffield gave Perth Scorchers an early breakthrough when he dismissed a struggling Lou Vincent in their Champions League T20 match at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Tuesday.

Scorecard

Vincent (2), in his attempt to hit a wild swing, nicked a short off length Duffield delivery straight to keeper Luke Ronchi.

Earlier, an impressive bowing effort by Michael Bates helped Auckland Aces restrict Perth Scorchers to a score of 140/7.

Michael Bates finished with remarkable figures of 4 for 34 from his allowed overs and picked up the wickets Ronchi and Joe Mennie in the last over right after he scalped Tom Beaton.

Beaton and Paul Collingwood helped revive the Scorchers innings after early setbacks. Beaton and Collingwood put up a much needed 51-run partnership right after Perth Scorchers lost skipper Marcus North, Simon Katich.

A 55-run partnership for the second wicket was broken when North (37) was run-out after a direct hit by Kyle Mills. Then almost immediately Katich (21) fell victim to some impeccable bowing by Ronnie Hira, who got the better of the southpaw's stumps.

North and Katich hit a flurry of boundaries with the skipper contributing with 4 boundaries and a single six.

Earlier, Bates helped Auckland Aces get an early breakthrough when he dismissed Herschelle Gibbs.

An out-of-form Gibbs (6) was left bamboozled when Bates' slower delivery was taken comfortably at mid-off by Colin Munro right after Perth Scorchers skipper Marcus North won the toss and decided to bat against Auckland Aces.

A semifinal berth seems like distant possibility for Auckland Aces but the New Zealand side will look to keep itself in the calculations by taming the demoralised Perth Scorchers when the two teams lock horns in their final round-robin match.

Auckland had not put a foot wrong in the tournament till they faced the Titans. The New Zealand side started its campaign on a rampaging note winning both its qualifiers comprehensively to make the main draw from pool 1.

Perth Scorchers, on the other hand, started with a loss against Titans and were left disappointed after heavens opened in the second game against Kolkata and the three-wicket loss to Delhi was the final nail in the coffin for them.

Teams:

Auckland Aces: Gareth Hopkins (Capt. and wk), Azhar Mahmood, Michael Bates, Colin de Grandhomme, Martin Guptill, Ronnie Hira, Anaru Kitchen, Bruce Martin, Kyle Mills, Colin Munro, Lou Vincent.

Perth Scorchers: Marcus North (Capt.), Tom Beaton, Michael Beer, Paul Collingwood, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Ryan Duffield, Herschelle Gibbs, Brad Hogg, Simon Katich, Joe Mennie, Luke Ronchi (wk).
