NEW DELHI: The Indian Cricket board (BCCI) on Sunday refused to accept that the India-Pakistan World Cup semifinal match in 2011 was fixed saying such claims are an insult to Team India.

BCCI president N Srinivasan was reacting to a news published in a British newspaper which claimed that the semifinal game that India won was fixed.

"Such claims are an insult to our team," said Srinivasan.

Britain's Daily Mail newspaper had published extracts of a book by sports-betting journalist Ed Hawkins in which he claimed an Indian bookmaker had accurately predicted what would happen in Pakistan's innings against their arch-rivals.

Hawkins said the bookmaker, Parthiv, sent him a Twitter message during the Indian innings correctly calling that when Pakistan batted, they would reach 100 easily then lose two wickets quickly, reach 150 with five down and lose by more than 20 runs.

India won the match by 29 runs to book their place in the final where they beat Sri Lanka to claim their second World Cup.

The ICC had also earlier rejected the allegations which had surfaced shortly after the match.

The then ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat had said, "The ICC has no reason or evidence to require an investigation into this match. It is indeed sad for spurious claims to be made which only serve to cause doubt on the semi-final of one of the most successful ICC Cricket World Cups ever."

Meanwhile, the then PCB chief Ijaz Butt said he would like to see the PCB take up the issue with the ICC.

"I am no longer the Chairman and it is not right for me to say anything now but I think the current Chairman should take up this issue with the ICC," Butt told PTI.

"It is a fact that few weeks after the match was played they were lot of allegations made but nothing concrete came up from anywhere. Not even the ICC said anything about it," he added.

The current PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf said he would not like to comment in the issue since he was not the chief at that time.
