Scorecard
England were unchanged from the side that lost the second ODI by a crushing 88 runs at Manchester's Old Trafford on Sunday, a result that put Australia 1-0 up in the five-match series following Friday's washout at Headingley in Leeds.
But, with Wednesday's match delayed by rain, Australia brought in seamer Josh Hazlewood for leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed.
It was only the second ODI of the 22-year-old Hazlewood's career and first in more than three years following his debut, against England at Southampton in July 2010.
However, the New South Wales paceman did take two for 43 in Australia's 39-run Twenty20 win over England at Southampton last month.
Rain delayed the scheduled 1:30pm local time (1230GMT) toss by 35 minutes but the start of the match was set to be put back by just 20 minutes to 2.20pm (1320GMT), with no overs lost.
