NEW DELHI: Parvez Rasool has drawn more attention due to political influences in the country than his cricket in the field over the last few weeks.

Even as he tries to build his career from the opportunities dished out to him by the national selector, the 24-year-old is more bent on developing the game in his home state Jammu & Kashmir.

His priority, despite playing top flight cricket with the India 'A' team over the last eight months and learning the intricacies of the game, remains to keep playing for J&K and see them through to the better higher group in Ranji Trophy cricket.

"Yes, I have got to learn a lot travelling with the Indian team and the best of the support staff which I never dreamt of playing at J&K. The difference of playing in Group C (previously known as the Plate Group) and in the IPL and international games is stark. But the J&K association has seen me through till here. I am not leaving for any other state. Not, at least for another three or four seasons," Rasool told TOI not before conceding, "I need to bowl to quality batsman regularly to test myself and when it comes to my batting, I need to improve on facing quality pace. I had not played much pace before South Africa. Pacers there bowled at 140-145 kmph."

The reason, he says, he feels indebted by the state and the people who have supported him -- indicating at J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah's comments of disappointment when he wasn't he given a game during India's tour to Zimbabwe in July this year.

"When I returned home after the two-month tour, many parents came to me with their kids and showed interest which was lacking previously. The state association is also organising leagues and conducting camps at age-group levels. I want to serve my state now. These are good signs," the bowling all-rounder said who derives inspiration from Services surge in to the higher group last season.

But what about players from J&K getting special political attention? "Everyone has his opinion. But you can't forget that these are the same selectors who are giving good breaks to a lot of youngsters. If I continue to work hard and perform, I will surely get a call back soon," he stated.
