Scorecard
Eranga had first Test centurions Younis Khan (13) and Misbah (one) to leave Pakistan from 107-2 to 109-4 before they reached 128-6 at tea after being sent into bat on a seaming Dubai stadium pitch.
Sarfraz Ahmed was unbeaten on six and Bilawal Bhatti on nought as Pakistan lost five wickets for 71 runs after being 57-1 at lunch.
Sri Lankan pacemen had little success in the first session and their hard work was also spoiled by sloppy fielders.
Skipper Angelo Mathews floored Shehzad in the slips off paceman Suranga Lakmal with the batsman still to get off the mark, but the lapse did not prove costly.
Paceman Nuwan Pradeep, brought in for his first match in 12 months for spinner Sachitra Senanayake in the drawn first Test line up, had Shehzad leg-before for just three.
Mahela Jayawardene dropped Hafeez off the first ball he faced from Pradeep, but the paceman had the last laugh when he bowled Hafeez through the gate soon after lunch.
Eranga then had prized wickets of Younis and Misbah. Younis tried to cut a wide delivery while Misbah was squared up on a moving delivery -- both were caught behind.
Lakmal then had Khurram Manzoor caught behind off a rash shot for 73 while Asad Shafiq miscued a drive and was caught in the covers for six.
Manzoor hit seven boundaries and six during his 136-ball knock but failed to turn it into a big score and stop the wicket slide.
All three pacemen Lakmal, Eranga and Pradeep had two wickets apiece.
