T20 WC: Jaya lifts SL after early blow

NEW DELHI: Mahela Jayawardene and Tillakaratne Dilshan rescued Sri Lanka from an early blow and took the score past 50-mark in the eighth over in the World T20 Super 10 match in Chittagong.

Scorecard

On the second delivery of the eighth over, Dilshan hit English skipper Stuart Broad for a six above mid wicket to get Lankan fifty.

Jade Dernbach struck in the second over to get Kusal Perera caught behind after England asked Sri Lanka to bat.

Perera (3) got his glove while while trying to pull Dernbach, giving an easy catch to the man behind the stumps.

Both teams were unchanged from their last games. Sri Lanka crushed the Netherlands by nine wickets on Monday while England lost to New Zealand under the Duckworth-Lewis method on Saturday -- both matches played in Chittagong.

South Africa edged out the Netherlands by six runs in the same group earlier on Thursday.

Title holders the West Indies, India, Pakistan, hosts Bangladesh and Australia are in group two.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semis.
