Simmons lifts Windies after early blows

NEW DELHI: Pakistan took an early edge as West Indies lost both openers cheaply after opting to bat in the final World T20 Super 10 match on Tuesday.

Scorecard

Mohammad Hafeez sent back Chris Gayle (5) while Sohail Tanvir dismissed Dwayne Smith (8) to reduce West Indies to 22/2.

Gayle stretched forward to play Hafeez but missed the chance and wicket keeper Kamran Akmal made no mistake in removing the bails at the score of 10 in the third over.

Smith then edged Tanvir to give Akmal a simple catch behind the stumps in the fourth over.

Both teams are on four points each and it will be a virtual quarterfinal clash to decide on the second semifinalist from Group 2 after India emerged group champions with an all-win record.

The match is being billed as a battle between the mystery spinners with West Indies banking heavily on Sunil Narine while Pakistan's hopes will be pinned on Saeed Ajmal.
