Sehwag waiting for a promised honour

NEW DELHI: When Ambati Rayudu walked in at No. 3 on Saturday, there was sense of disappointment among the Delhi crowd. Well, they were expecting Virat Kohli to strut his stuff as soon as possible.

Amid the frenzy, very few in the ground would have recalled their one-time favourite Virender Sehwag.

Sehwag, arguably the greatest cricketer the Capital has produced, is kept waiting for his due recognition from the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA).

The DDCA had announced that they will name a stand or a gate after Sehwag when the talismanic opener had played his 100th Test nearly two years ago.

Since then three international matches have been hosted by the association.

DDCA vice-president Chetan Chauhan cited legal issues concerning the construction of the stadium for the delay.

"We haven't got the completion certificate of the stadium from the authorities yet. It is difficult to name a stand. But as soon as we get the certificate, we will build a gate after Sehwag's name," DDCA vice-president Chetan Chauhan told TOI.
