The West Indian bowlers failed to take Australia's wicket numbers 2, 3 and 4 in the title clash. Viv Richards took them with his fielding skills.
First, Allan Turner with a direct hit at the striker's end from the mid-wicket. Turner was late off his blocks from the non-striker's end. Then, Greg Chappell who ran after an initial 'NO' with brother Ian due to a misfield in the cover-point region.
And finally Ian himself. A left-handed pickup and a right-handed sharp throw to the bowler found the Australian skipper short of his crease. Australia fell short of 291 by 17 runs.
Indian fans still rejoice in Kapil Dev's great catch in the 1983 World Cup final to dismiss Richards. A great piece of fielding always has a potential to change a match. Richards himself proved it in the inaugural edition.
