Phoolka on Monday said that seven Sikh cricket fans were stopped from entering Eden Park to watch India play Zimbabwe in a match on Saturday as they were carrying kirpans.
"A kirpan is a religious and pious symbol for a baptised Sikh and emotions and religious sentiments are attached with this, which is one of the five symbols of Sikhism," said Phoolka .
He said that even New Zealand government had also condemned the decision and had sympathized with the community.
He said he had urged the central government to take up the matter seriously with ICC as Indians were prominently placed in ICC.
"Also, it is duty of the Akali Dal, which is a part of the central Government, to take up the matter with ICC and BCCI" he said. eom
